That It’s Okay to Slow Down
October has a way of making everything feel a little different. The days become shorter, the weather starts cooling down, and suddenly staying home under a blanket sounds much better than being busy every second of the day. Maybe that's exactly what some of us need.
We live in a world that constantly tells us to do more. Work more. Earn more. Go more places. Keep the house perfect. Be productive. Answer every message. Show up for everyone. And somewhere in the middle of doing all of that, we can forget that rest is part of living too. This October, I'm giving myself permission to slow down.
That doesn't mean ignoring responsibilities. As a mom, there will always be something that needs to be done. There are meals to prepare, appointments to remember, school responsibilities, household chores, and a million little things that come with taking care of a family. But slowing down can happen in small ways.
It can mean drinking your morning coffee before checking your phone. Sitting outside for a few minutes and enjoying the cooler weather. Turning down an invitation because you genuinely want to stay home. Cooking dinner and sitting together instead of rushing through the evening. It can even mean leaving the laundry until tomorrow.
One thing I'm learning is that every moment doesn't have to be productive to be valuable. October is the perfect month to create a little more coziness at home. Light a candle. Open the windows when the weather allows. Watch an old movie with your children. Read a book. Make soup. Take an evening walk. Put your phone down.
Life moves quickly, and our children grow even faster. There will always be another task waiting for us. But some moments don't come back. So, this October, I'm choosing to be present for more of them. Maybe slowing down isn't falling behind. Maybe it's finally giving ourselves enough time to enjoy the life we've been working so hard to build.
