You Still Have Time to Finish the Year Strong
October always makes me realize something: the year isn't over yet. By this point, some of those goals we were excited about in January may have disappeared somewhere between everyday responsibilities, unexpected situations, busy schedules, and simply being tired. And that's okay. We still have time.
October gives us an opportunity to look at the final few months of the year differently. Instead of saying, “I'll start again in January,” why not start again now? Take a few minutes this month and think about what you wanted for yourself at the beginning of the year. Maybe you wanted to save money. Maybe you wanted to exercise more.
Maybe you planned to go back to school, read more, declutter your house, start a business, spend more time with your children, or simply take better care of yourself. Ask yourself one question: What can I realistically accomplish before December 31?
Notice I said realistically.
This isn't about trying to completely transform your life in three months. It's about choosing a few things that matter and consistently working toward them. Maybe your goal becomes walking three days a week instead of promising yourself you'll exercise every day. Maybe you automatically transfer a small amount into savings every payday. Maybe you tackle one room of your house each week. Maybe you spend 20 minutes each evening working toward a personal goal. Small progress still counts.
As moms, especially, it's easy to spend so much time helping everyone else reach their milestones that we put our own goals on the back burner. October can be our reminder that we matter too. You don't need January 1. You don't need Monday. You don't need the perfect circumstances. You can simply decide that today is a good day to begin again.
There are still more than two months left in this year. That's plenty of time to create a few habits, make meaningful progress, and walk into the new year already moving in the direction you want to go.
Don't count the year out yet. Your next chapter doesn't need a January start date.
